What is the Lets FACE it! initiative?

Let’s FACE (Focus Action for Crawley’s Environment) it! is a Crawley Borough Council initiative that supports local people and businesses in improving their environment in which they live and work through volunteering. The aim of the initiative, launched in 2005, is to increase levels of community cohesion and social inclusion, and help make neighbourhoods cleaner and greener.

How does it work?

Residents, community groups and businesses approach their ward councillor or the council with an idea for a project. Our Let’s FACE it! Coordinator then helps residents and councillors to organise and promote their event, provide tools and equipment, health and safety advice and access to specialist knowledge and skills.

Types of projects

  • Creating a community garden or wildlife garden
  • Cleaning up an eye-sore, and keeping it clean
  • Improving the way a neighbourhood looks
  • Creating a safe, interesting nature trail through woodland
  • Planting trees and wildflowers to screen unattractive buildings and encourage wildlife
  • Creating interesting areas for children’s play
  • Organising community events by groups such as Friends groups or residents associations
