150519 Cubs

Tonight the Cubs took part in the activity of Orienteering.  Orienteering is a sport that requires navigational skills sometimes using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map which they use to find control points. This activity originally formed a part of the training exercises in land navigation for the military.
The course that the Cubs went on tonight, in the Hawth Woods, is one of a number of public courses that can be found in and around the Town of Crawley.  The Pack has previously enjoyed orienteering in Tilgate and Buchan Parks.
My thanks to Antony Welch for organising and co-ordinating tonight’s activity.  Very much appreciated as always.  Thanks also to his two children, Kit and Lizzie for turning out and offering help and much needed support.  Finally my thanks to Betty & Tersha, two of our parents for also volunteering and lending a hand – thank you all!
